Schneider Gallery

I went to a photography museum the other day just to explore and get out of the house for a while.
I wasn't really expecting anything great, but I was pleasantly surprised.

The gallery was really small, but the work was really good and I was glad to see that it wasn't all digital "artsy" hipster art. It was toward the end of the exhibition and the gallery attendant was setting out work for the new show, so I also got a bonus sneak peak of their upcoming show.

Normally I'm really not into portraiture, but I was really into some prints by Luis Gonzalez- Palma. I think I liked that it was a large format and was all hand done.

He did an alternative process on red paper and gold leaf for some of his prints. It's kind of hard to tell in the picture, but the way it was layered and and the little bit of red peaking through made the piece way more interesting than a lot of work I've seen around.

His more traditional portraits were silver gelatin prints, which makes me really miss having a darkroo, and then were hand painted.

I'm really glad I went. It makes me want to get back out there and take pictures again. Hopefully Once the weather gets just a bit better and when I have a couple of days off I'll go on an adventure that I can capture on film or at least on my digital.
